Glasses2Varioport

Tobii Pro Glasses 2 has set new standards in the field of mobile eye tracking. The varioport recorder system is an established standard device in the scientific world for biometric data acquisition. The Biometric Software Suite was designed to integrate data from eye tracking and biometric devices to analyze data from both worlds.

So let’s put all this together:

Glasses2Varioport is the link between the Glasses 2 trigger port and the varioport recording system. Together with the synchronized import function of the Biometric Software Suite, it provides a plug-and-play solution for combining mobile eye tracking and biometric data recording.

How does it work?

Picture of biometric sensors

  • Tobii Pro Glasses 2 sends trigger signals every 10 seconds via a built-in port.

  • The start of a recording sequence is marked by three short pulses.

  • Glasses2Varioport connects the trigger port of Tobii Pro Glasses 2 to an input channel of the varioport recorder,

so all triggers are recorded together with the biometric data.

  • The synchronized import wizard of the Biometric Software Suite automatically detects triggers in both the eye-tracking and biometric data and merges the datasets for further analysis, for example with Biometric Software Suite Professional, which includes GSR analysis, FFT filtering, other operations, and raw-data export for individual analysis in R or SPSS.

What are the advantages compared with streaming solutions on the market?

  • Each data stream is recorded by its own device and at its own sampling rate. No data are lost during recording.
  • Data are synchronized via a hardware link. No delay from buffering or hardware drivers is involved.
  • All data are recorded on SD cards in the devices. There is no need to stream data via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.

Which kinds of biometric data are supported?

The Varioport system supports the recording of skin conductance (GSR), ECG/heart rate, respiration, and EEG with up to 8 channels. Other signals may be included on request.

Are other devices supported?

  • The system is designed and optimized for the combination of Tobii Pro Glasses 2 and the varioport or varioLAB recorder.

  • Glasses2Varioport is the first solution that synchronizes Tobii Pro Glasses 2 directly with other sensors using hardware synchronization.

Are there any references?

Yes. The German Heart Center Berlin is one of our references. It is a specialized hospital for the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. It uses Glasses2Varioport and supports us with its expertise.
